Welcome to April4Schools.com
Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. My name is April Griffin and I appreciate the opportunity to share with you why I am running for the Alachua County School Board District 1 seat. For over 24 years, I have been involved in Alachua County schools either as a teacher or a volunteer. I have served on the School Advisory Council (SAC) and as PTA President at Lawton Chiles Elementary School. Currently, I serve on Kanapaha Middle School’s SAC as a community representative. I know the issues that our schools, principals, teachers, and staff deal with every day are astounding. Being a parent of students that currently attend Alachua County Schools has given me a better perspective and helped me realize how testing, budget cuts, student retention, school grades, and Adequate Yearly Progress (A.Y.P.) all weigh heavily on our schools. While there are numerous issues facing our schools, there are three that I feel are key to the ongoing success of Alachua County Schools.
Over the last six months, I have visited 40 of our public, charter, and center schools; attended School Board meetings; and met with district directors and community leaders so that I could be educated and aware of the issues our School Board is facing. Within the District 1 race, I am the only candidate that qualified for the ballot by petition. My friends, family, and I collected over 1700 valid petitions signed by Alachua County voters to have April Griffin on the ballot. This is a county-wide race so voters will be able to vote for candidates in all three districts. I will work to improve education for all children in Alachua County.
Thank you again for visiting my website. I look forward to working for you and our students as a member of the Alachua County School Board.
